The Grade 11 Poetry Companion accompanies the Cornerstone Academics literature curriculum with 36 poems, one for each week of the school year. At this level the poems are about mastery and the strange mercy of skill — the carpenter who steps back from the bench as the apprentice finds the rhythm without being taught it, the cabinetmaker who sees commissions for grand staircases and returns to his oak and ash and pine. Students learn to read verse in which silence carries as much weight as statement, and in which what a craftsman does not say is as precise as what he does.
