The Cornerstone Academics Vanguard Literature Grade 12 Poetry Anthology is a complete, single-volume collection of all 36 poems in the culminating year of the Vanguard Literature poetry curriculum.
The poems in this anthology complete the arc begun in Grade 9. Where the earlier grades offered portraits of people defined by their vocation — the ferryman, the herbalist, the astronomer — Grade 12 asks what those vocations leave behind when the person who practiced them is gone. What Remains opens the collection with a meditation on hands shaped by thirty years of carrying, palms thick where handles wore them smooth, fingers half-curved even in rest. The Maker follows with a cabinet-maker who fits the final joint, steps back, and watches the table already belong more to the room it will enter than to the hands that brought it there. Poem by poem, the anthology builds a portrait of legacy without recognition, of work that continues after the worker has left it, of skill so fully absorbed by another generation that no one can say exactly where possession ceased. These are poems for readers who have spent years learning to attend to language and are now ready to hear what the silence holds.
Organized by week, the anthology pairs with the Grade 12 Poetry Companion Student Workbook and Teacher’s Edition.
