The Cornerstone Academics Vanguard Literature Grade 12 Poetry Companion Student Workbook gives students a full year of poetry study in the culminating year of the classical literature program.
Thirty-six poems — one for each week of the school year — complete the arc of the Vanguard Literature poetry curriculum. At the Grade 12 level, the poems are about what work leaves behind when the worker is gone: hands shaped by decades of carrying that retain the record in their knuckles; a maker whose finished table already belongs more to the room it will enter than to the hands that brought it there; skill that passed out of the craftsman’s possession so gradually that no one can say exactly when possession ceased. These are poems for readers who have been attending to language for years and can now hear what the silence in a poem carries.
