Prefixes & Suffixes I โ Practice App (Grades 3โ8)
Prefixes & Suffixes I teaches 53 of the most common word parts in English: the prefixes, suffixes and endings students meet every day in their reading, such as un-, re-, dis-, pre-, -ful, -less, -ness, -able, -tion and more. Once students know them, they can take apart an unfamiliar word and work out what it means.
The app runs for 26 weeks, following the Prefixes & Suffixes I workbook week for week with the same word parts. Weeks 1โ20 teach one prefix and one suffix each week. Weeks 21โ24 teach two prefixes each week. Weeks 25โ26 teach the word endings -s/-es, -ed, -ing, -er and -est. Every card has recorded narration of its meaning and word family. Three kinds of practice: Flashcards to learn each part's meaning, Quizzes to test recognition, and Use It to find the prefix or suffix inside real words, complete sentences, and hunt for words that use it.
Mastery takes three correct answers in a row. A miss brings the word part back until it is solid, and mastered parts return now and then for review.
A placement check lets students who already know some of these word parts skip ahead. Each student keeps a separate profile with their own progress.
