The Beekeeper’s Year — Henri Morel finds the last hive dead on a Wednesday morning in April in Burgundy in 1350 — the same morning the priest comes to tell him his wife died in the night. He is sixty years old and has kept bees on the hillside above the village for forty years. The two pieces of news arrive within an hour of each other. The story follows what he does next, which is what he has always done, because work keeps people not by resolving anything but by being there to do.
