The Spoiled Sheets — Nine reams of paper came up from the coast to the only printing house in the New World in 1540, and somewhere between the quay in Seville and the mountains above Mexico City, three reams were lost. What arrived is enough for one of two things and not for both, and the printer Alonzo must decide which thing the paper is for. No amount of turning it over makes it into paper for both.
