📦 Shipping Notice for Print Books
To keep shipping costs as low as possible, we recommend placing smaller print book orders whenever practical. Orders that exceed our print partner's U.S. shipping weight limit may be fulfilled from a U.K. facility, resulting in significantly higher shipping charges. If you're purchasing several print books, placing two or more smaller orders will often reduce your shipping costs.
Maryam’s Table — Maryam al-Rashidi runs a market table in Cairo in 1240, and a Levantine merchant named Dawoud makes her an offer on a slow Tuesday. Her husband told her once that the worst thing in commerce was the confusion of what something is worth with what something means. The offer Dawoud makes is fair by the first measure and not by the second, and Maryam has a long Tuesday afternoon in which to decide what she thinks those two measures are for.
