The Tremor and the Pipe — Luca Foscari has been blowing glass on Murano since he was young — first sweeping the furnace room, then journeyman, then master. In January 1490 he extends his hand flat in the morning and it is still, or appears still, but there is something he has been noticing for two years that does not yet appear to anyone else. He has been avoiding the question the tremor poses. The tremor is not only a diminishment.
