The Unfinished Fresco — Maestro Rinaldo died on the scaffold at the chapel of Sant'Agata in Siena in 1310 with his brushes still in his hands, leaving the east wall unfinished. Giacomo Setti was his apprentice, and has spent the years since working smaller commissions, until the Malavolti family asks him to complete what Rinaldo left. Three layers of intention beneath the plaster, each one covering the previous. Completing another man's work is not the same as doing your own.
