The Weight of Bread — The mistake happened because the woman ahead of her in the Leningrad bread queue fainted on a January morning in 1942, when the temperature had not risen above minus twenty for eleven days and the queue had been standing since before light. In the reorganization, the distributor made an error. She received two hundred grams that belonged to someone else's ration — to someone standing behind her in the cold — and the story is about what she does with two hundred grams she knows are not hers, in a city where that number means something different than it does anywhere else.
